HollyShorts Awards: Riz Ahmed, animation, live action shorts move to Oscar-qualifying

Recognizing short film excellence from around the world, the HollyShorts Film Festival’s awards presented more than 35 awards, including top three Oscar-qualifying categories, on October 1 at the Harmony Gold Theatre in Hollywood.

The 17th HollyShorts Film Festival’s awards was hosted by Digital LA founder Kevin Winston, and internationally-recognized influencer Lizza Monet Morales, the annual awards gala

The festival took place in-person with screenings in-person at the TCL Chinese Theatres, panels at Japan House LA, opening party at Madame Tussauds Hollywood, closing party at Avalon Hollywood, and various locations throughout Hollywood.

The online edition of the festival is still currently available on Bitpix TV, the festival’s digital platform.

The awards hosts and award winners from around the world thanked HollyShorts Film Festival founders Daniel Sol, Theo Dumont, and Nicole Castro for creating a place for short film storytelling to be recognized and honored, and a filmmaker community thru both the film fest awards and monthly screening series.

The films moving on to be Oscar®-qualified include:


Aneil Karia’s Grand Prix-winning short THE LONG GOODBYE starring Riz Ahmed.


 

Best Live Action short LITTLE BEAR from director Nicolas Birkenstock.

Best Animation short I AM A PEBBLE from Berteraut Mélanie, Bresson Yasmine, Coulombier Léo, Grondin Nicolas, le Chapelain Maxime, and Massé Louise.
