What VCs Want: New VC funds give advice for startups

SANTA MONICA – Three VCs gave excellent advice to startups at our Digital LA – What VCs Want panel at the new Capital Cafe in Santa Monica.

Speakers included Dustin Rosen of Wonder Ventures, Erin Shipley of The Helm Fund for women, and Vaughn Blake of Autochrome Ventures. They are new VC funds in the growing Silicon Beach – LA Tech scene.

Dustin Rosen, Wonder Ventures, Managing Partner. Dustin Rosen is an investor in technology companies and the founder of Wonder Ventures. In 2010, Dustin founded Pose, and as CEO, led the company through development, growth and three rounds of venture capital funding. In 2012, Apple named it one of the best apps of the year, and at the end of 2013, Dustin guided Pose through an acquisition before beginning Wonder Ventures. Prior to Pose, Dustin worked at the Mailroom Fund, an LA-based venture capital group comprised of the William Morris Agency, Accel Partners, Venrock, and AT&T. There, Dustin focused on discovering and funding high-impact and innovative companies in the internet consumer arena. Before this, he worked at the William Morris Agency, getting his start in the infamous Mail Room. He received a B.S. in Economics from The Wharton School at The University of Pennsylvania. @du_ro
– Erin Shipley, The Helm Fund, Managing Partner and Co-Founder. Erin Shipley is the co-founder and Managing Partner of The Helm, a community and venture fund that rethinks how people invest in female entrepreneurs. With offices in New York and Los Angeles, The Helm invests in high-growth technology companies with female CEOs, primarily at the seed stage. Before The Helm, she was an investor at Karlin Ventures, an LA-based seed and Series A stage fund that invested across marketplaces, enterprise, and commerce technologies, backing companies including Laurel & Wolf, ChowNow, Verge Genomics, and Policy Genius. Before Karlin, she held a variety of investment and innovation roles at the Weinstein Company and Deutsche Bank. She graduated from the Wharton School at the University of Pennsylvania, where she focused on access to capital issues for entrepreneurs. @erinbshipley
Vaughn Blake, Telescopic Ventures, Managing Partner. Vaughn is the co-founder and managing partner of Telescopic Ventures a $30M frontier/edge tech focused pre-seed venture firm. Additionally, he is the Co-CIO of Autochrome Axis, LP, a quantitative cryptocurrency trading vehicle.
